Time Flies when you are Having Fun!

What is your commitment to your career and lifelong vocation?  Is it high or low?  Do you LOVE your job, just like it, or live for the weekend?  All of us need to earn a living, but have you chosen a career you love?  Feel bad to have misplaced my motivation to blog over the past month, but my office staff and I have been loving our office.  We set goals for the coming year, made a timeline, and are working on the accountability systems so that all of us can measure how successful we are at accomplishing our goals…however change starts with you (which in in this case is me!) so here is my first Blog post of 2012.  Looking forward to a great year.  If you catch me slacking off, poke me on facebook or email through the website link.  Here’s hoping you love your year also!

Only 3 days til Christmas? Gift back to your community!

Hopefully all get to spend restful time this weekend with friends and family…and possibly doing something beneficial for someone less fortunate than themselves.  It is the socially  responsible thing to do, and it makes you feel good, and the reward is that you benefit as much as the recipient, if for nothing else the warm feelings and peace of mind it generates inside you…We all live in a great time, where the vast majority of our citizens have more than enough to eat, modern sanitation, 24 hour entertainment, and a warm or cool indoor place to sleep at night, safe from predation by wild animals and thugs.  Why not share your wealth!

Your simple attempt, even if it is unsuccessful, such as my friend who tried to pay for a random stranger’s gifts anonymously at Wal-mart, but was denied, makes you a hero. Those who pledge to feed the hungry, work at a mission or shelter, or support their local communities, through gifts to civic events, school sports teams, or just buy the person behind them a Starbucks coffee, or give their youth in the Armed Forces, in support and defense of our Freedom, are my heroes.

Give now, and give generously.  You will only regret the opportunity you missed to give, not the giving of the gift.

“If service is the rent you pay for your existence on this earth, are you behind in your rent?”

Some great apps for your iPad updated…

Nearly everyone who uses an iPad loves the device, and tablet computing generally has altered how we look at data, for most of us by browsing the internet, and viewing content, but also in photography, and in the health care setting as well.  The trick is to find useful applications that allow us to see what we want.  Most of us count on content tips and apps from friend suggestions, or a website like Mashable.  I am lucky enough to get some of this information courtesy of my Twitter feed.  That feed sent me to Dwight Silverman’s Tech Blog which has a great list of iPad apps.  Hope you enjoy… and remember imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but plagiarism gets you a “cease and desist order”, so link away, but don’t copy.

Added a Flickr Feed…Now I have photo Anxiety!

Started a new hobby just a few months ago, which is photography.  All these things start with equipment, move to basic technical skills, and progress to…well some of the stuff that shows on the Flickr Feed.  Showing you own work next to that quality of photos is like parking your (fill in your favorite car you have seen on Overhaulin) next to a Brand new (fill in your favorite from Top Gear...)  The good news is that your Car can be repaired, the bad news is it is not a Ferrari.

However, hardly anyone starts with a Ferrari, so I have something to work up to.  At the end of the day, 5-10 years from now, I would like to be producing at least BMW 5 Series level photos, or Even M Class Mercedes.

Don’t be afraid to tell me how I did if I post some photos.  Any Critique is ok, just remember that 5Xp[*#%@ives(Foul and abusive language) will not see the light of day!

A Hidden ;-( or :-) inside your iOS 5 device

Do you like sharing with people you emotions in a text message via a :-) ?

These small characters, called Emoticons, or Emoji in Japan, are an easy way to communicate your current emotions.  Some websites recognize the smiley face above and convert it into an  Emoticon.  Early users of iOS5 and other versions of the Apple OS have been downloading an Emoji app from the AppStore to add these icons.  I learned today, courtesy of Mashable, that these icons are available built into the phone, hidden under the international keyboard option. For more information about this setting, review this great article by Todd Wasserman or any of his others.

4 new things I learned about the iOS5′s Camera…

Hopefully everyone who has an iPhone enjoys the ease of use and other great features of this groundbreaking device.  There are many places to find out all sorts of information about your device, including Apple’s website.  A simple Google search will reveal pages of useful information.  My iPhone 3S will be two years old in February, but it has been able to make the transition all the way to iOS 5.  I discovered some great new additions to the phone, which make it much better for photography.

  1. Grid-lines set from the Options menu- There is a great page on the Rule of Thirds on Wikipedia, and a simple setting allows these grid-lines to be displayed.  Just follow this simple rule of composition to greatly improve your photos
  2. Auto Exposure Lock-Ever want to take a photo indoors, without your iPhone 4 flash, or at all with the 3S?   Just hold your finger down on a dark area over your subject, and the camera locks the exposure(lightens the picture).  Your flash will act as a fill flash if you have the iPhone 4 or 4S.
  3. Ever wish you could take a picture of something, but your phone is locked!  Just like a pesky lens cap from days gone by…  With iOS5, just double tap your home button, and like magic, your camera is available for pictures.
  4. Want an actual button to use instead of the screen when taking a photo?  Once you install iOS 5, your Volume up button will act as the shutter button, making it easier to take photos.

So enjoy that great piece of technology you carry around in your pocket, purse or holster, knowing that a nice photo is at your fingertips.  Now if I could only remember where I sat it last!
